For Today - 2009 - Portraits |
Melodic Christian metalcore from USA, latest full-length album released in 2009.
Quote:
"For Today,
You see, I have made you into a fortified city, a pillar of iron, a wall of bronze against the whole land -- against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests and the people of the land. They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you," says the Lord, "to rescue you."
The commission of this band and every person who takes the name of Jesus for their own is to restore the earth, nation by nation. We are called to nothing less than to bring wholeness, by means of reconciliation to the Creator, to the nation of the underground, the country we live in, and the world around us. We are a voice. We are the hands. We are the feet. We are the physical manifestation of the goodness of God in this fallen world. We are the healing presence of Jesus Christ. We are the transcedent Kingdom of God. We are the power, presence, rule, and reign of Jesus upon the earth. We are his -- the workmanship of Yahweh, the God of Peace -- Jesus Christ. We are of those who will not settle for anything less than the complete fulfillment of each of His precious promise.
May our praise be in proportion to his glory. |

The heavy music realm has possibly expanded its scheme with different genres through the years and For Today has been one of underground hardcore’s newest to wave the flag as they come out with their sophomore effort, Portraits. This album features a biblical aspect to its track listing as we check it out on its opening selection, “Emmanuel (The Challenger)” as it’s a crunching thrasher of roaring vocals and pummeling bass grooves. Next up was “Saul Of Tarsus (The Messenger)” which was a graphic portrayal of devotion toward God through the eyes of St. Paul with blistering; yet melodic riffs and stuttering floods of bass and drums as their frontman poured out his soul.
“Nicodemus (The Seeker)” rattled things more so with its technical display of shredding backed by this painfully honest retelling of New Testament scripture set to throat-gurgling growls which tears at your mind. “Joel (The Watchman)” on the other hand has this political undertone in its content as it’s splattered with the judgment of a sinful nation through a combination of street chants in the chorus, dual vocals and an ear-splitting guitar solo that shivers your spine to its core. For Today totally surprised us with a serene instrumental with “Benedictus (Song Of Zechariah)” as it was full of light strumming and orchestral notations blended in a smooth genunine flow to calm the aggressiveness of this album’s nature.
“Isaiah (The Willing)” returns to the metallic fury as it punches a hole into your skull with its apocalyptical material and doom-like dynamic giving us a frightening presentation. This band ends things with a deep power ballad called “Talmidim (The Servants)” as it encompasses a mixture of alluring harmonies and echoed spoken word emphasizing the truth and glory of God as warming chords are lightly played in the background. For Today has assembled a intriguing recording quite different and eclectic for the typical hardcore metal community and it's good. |
