REVIEW

Tea Party members state that this album will finally silence critics and transcend all the Led Zeppelin/Doors comparisons that have dogged their every step. Then they actually have the nerve on "Fire In The Head" to "borrow" the orchestral signature from Zep's "Kashmir" wholesale. Much is made of The Tea Party's integration of Middle Eastern elements and, to be fair, the group has taken the trouble to develop rudimentary skills on instruments like santoor, sarod, sitar, and tampura. Still, there isn't a first-hand influence to be heard. Rather, The Tea Party microwaves influences from classic acid rock groups that in turn had developed a Western, psychedelic interpretation of Middle Eastern signatures. The Edges of Twilight offers a lot of portentous bluster that sounds great on the surface but signifies little underneath.
